How Are You Doing?

As we look forward to summer in the Northern Hemisphere, I’d like to hear from you. How are you doing with your style? What systems are you using? I have been busy with work and now I’m trying to figure out how to make my site GDPR-compliant, so I’d like to turn it over to you.

For me, I am currently using Kibbe Flamboyant Gamine, as always, and Kibbe Vivid Autumn. I am as ever interested in Zyla and Fantastical Beauty, and currently think I’d be Tawny Spring in Zyla and a Garden Fairy Fae in these systems. If you’d like for me to talk about these more in depth, I would be glad to.

So just let me know how you’re doing and what you’re interested in seeing here as I try to get my life in order before some massive changes occur. 🙂

I’m Dark Autumn and I honestly have no clue what my Kibble type is, anymore. I’m mostly just aiming for a look that says, “I didn’t just throw on random stuff”.

I do Kibbe Flamboyant Natural to a degree, so open necklines, longer tops, vertical line. Also I am interested in Fantastical Beauty. I love that it is totally adjustable, individualized, and that is what I am doing, trying to make my very own style.

I periodically binge read your blog because I am addicted to reading about style systems. I generally see flaws in all of them but I also learn something from all of them. Gradually I have come to better understand what works for me and what doesn’t, sometimes I understand things best in terms of what not to wear. Reality is that I tend to be a perfectionist but finding what is right is not easy-limitations include availability, price, fit problems-and I have a very casual lifestyle which requires nothing more than jeans and a nice top, I don’t like a fussy outfit so I have my formula down pat. As far as I know I am a Warm Autumn, possibly a DYT 2/4 and in my own opinion a Kibbe Dramatic Classic light on the Dramatic, sometimes dipping into the Soft and I don’t know if Kibbe himself would agree with my self assessment. I spent a bit of time on the Facebook groups but I generally dislike groups so I quit them. I will keep checking in with your blog to see what you are up to and exploring and to read your take on style. It’s always interesting.

Oh my gosh, if you traded “Warm Autumn” for “Dark Autumn” it would be as if I wrote this comment myself.

That’s funny, Dia. I have experienced that before online too and it’s a bit startling isn’t it? Not sure if it’s exciting to find a kindred spirit or discouraging to know we aren’t terribly unique. LOL

I’m totally obsessed with Fantastical Beauty lately. I am working with two Maenad subtypes as an inspiration- Satyress and Succubus. I am also working with the Wolf animal familiar guidelines, which are some sort of middle ground between FN, SN and a touch of DC, and it’s going really well!
I’ve also been trying some warm spring colors after dressing very soft or warm autumn and the results are positive so far.
I’ve recently quit a very formal job in politics and am now doing freelance work mostly from home, so I’m suddenly very free clothig wise which is very fun, especially given the heat in my part of the world.

Congratulations on your new career path!

Wolf and Maenad sound very fun together.

I am currently taking a break from Kibbe and Zyla and am focusing on Fantastical Beauty. It has become so much fun and is very informative with most of the Animal Familiars completed now. I am going with Ocelot Magic Queen as that seems to be the best fit for me and am in the process of honing my wardrobe to a starting point and will take it back out from there. I will be re-looking at Kibbe and Zyla down the road. I am also currently rethinking my color season and recently purchased Christine Scaman’s new book which I have found quite helpful to the process.

I have been thinking about picking up the Ocelot guide for fun but I feel like it would lead me into my old trap of going too yang 🙂

Hi! I just had my first custom flirt palette done by Kathy at Beauty Valued. It aligns very well with light summer and DYT’s Type 2. I was analyzed by Rachel at Truth is Beauty as a Romantic-Dramatic-Ingenue, which, if I take out the ethereal elements of DYT’s Type 2 I also align nicely there. After reading several blogs (but not the book it’s self) I am fairly confident I am a Theatrical Romantic in Kibbe. Zyla is difficult. I know I am a summer, and I am between classic summer and Iridescent summer, I haven’t made up my mind yet, but because I know where I am in other systems it doesn’t matter much to me. I haven’t looked at Fantastical Beauty yet. I am so happy that you have created a space on this blog to freely talk about different systems and how they align (or don’t) As far as how it’s going creating a look, not well. I have my colors, I have my style, but for once I am not in the mood to shop. I have been at this for so long I feel like I need to just step back and take a break and focus on other things.

Fresh eyes can be good! Sometimes you just need to take a step back and the answer comes.

Just noticed your reply!! I just went shopping recently and taking a break really was the right thing to do. I still have a long way to go style-wise, but I am getting into my groove.

Vanessa, I had a thought today though it may not be any good. I was thinking in terms of Kibbe but it might work for any style system you write about. I recall David Kibbe wrote that everyone would need to do some individual tweaking regarding the recommendations for their type and of course that makes sense because as he says we are not all clones. We are still unique within our types. But I wonder how much tweaking is okay before it’s a sign you are in the wrong type. I’m guessing you will have explored this and have thoughts on it and probably asked this question while on the journey to finding your own type. If you’ve written about it already my apologies but I thought it might make a good topic.

I would say look at the recommendations for inspiration to try something new, and not as something to follow. I would keep the basic yin/yang balance in mind. So I make sure to have a juxtaposition of yin and yang, a little more yang than yin but still respecting the yin, and then try to make sure it’s fun/witty/sassy as befits an FG. I wouldn’t put together an outfit *from* the recommendations. So if you’re trying, say, FN, I would ask yourself if you had a sense of freedom with elongation and some sharp yang, or something like that.

Oh, thanks but I didn’t mean I was looking for personal advice. I was thinking more about the kind of thing I thought would make good future blog posts. Good advice though. Thanks for responding. I like the concept of freedom with elongation. It seems like a good mantra for someone! 🙂

It wouldn’t be something I would blog about, because Kibbe doesn’t use recommendations per se 🙂

I grew tired of back and forthing in regards to my season so I recently went for a color analysis. It only confirmed what already suspected (Soft Autumn bordering on Soft Summer) but boy was it liberating to hear it from another person and realise that my eyes weren’t deceiving me.

As for Kibbe, I think I finally settled with FG. It just makes most sense. Every other ID makes me feel like I’m too much or not enough of something to truly qualify. Sometimes I wake up in the morning thinking “Buuuut maybe D? Or DC?”, but then I look in the mirror or at some pictures of myself and say “Nope, still FG”. I can’t even say how I came to this realisation. I think I just kept reading David’s post and various discussions in SK After Hours group, and at some point quantity turned into quality. Something snapped in my vision, as if I tried on a new, better pair of glasses, and I just saw it.
Still not sure how to apply this knowledge to my wardrobe though.

For me, dressing FG is about keeping the yin/yang balance in place. I have a tendency to go too yang, so I check to make sure I have enough yin, and then I also want it to be witty and sassy.

Since the Bush Baby guide was commissioned I was leaving the BB-Maenad mashing as a summer project, but then I went and saw Zyla, which has completely messed up those plans. XD So I’m putting most of my energy towards getting to know my Buoyant Spring palette and recs. That means putting my Light Summer palette to rest and setting FB aside for one minute.

I don’t see anything in my BS recs that are incompatible with SG so Kibbe is staying for the time being. If that changes with subsequent Zyla consultations I’ll probably do what I’m doing with the other systems, and temporarily disregard it just while I get a feel for Zyla’s vision for me.

I’ve been slowly working through Carla Mathis’ book since last summer. Zyla managed to answer why I was having so much trouble with my colouring (especially my hair) so once I’m ready I think I’ll be able to attack that section with more energy.

I was always a bit unsure of your Zyla archetype but I think I’m liking Tawny for you.

Yes, I think Tawny seems most likely. Buoyant Spring and Gamine Autumn are my other choices, I suppose. I would be surprised by anything other than those three.

I’m bouncing around at the moment. I’m content in my use of Kibbe Dramatic and Sci\ART True Summer, and so trying to branch out into Zyla and Fantastical Beauty. I’m sort of half-assing an attempt at Soft Winter, but have yet to get paint chips. In Fantastical Beauty I’m between Swan and Ocelot, but totally lost again quadrant-wise between Fae/MQ/Nymph/Angel. Are you still liking Fae for yourself?

Yes, but not in the guise of the regular Fae and I’m not sure if Garden Fairy really adds something to what I’m already doing with FG…

I’m a verified Sci-Art Light Spring, possibly a House of Colour Blue Spring since I lean to the cool side of my Light Spring palette. That was helpful to figure out.

Right now I’m excited about combining Fantastical Beauty’s Nymph and Ermine. I’m going through the two guides again before I sort out my closet. I feel like Ermine was a missing piece I needed to make Nymph work for me in a coherent way. I still appreciate the sharper, more corporate look, but now I know why it’s not actually for me… I Kon-Mari’ed my wardrobe a few years ago, and my cream pinstripe suits spark lots of joy. They’re gorgeous, but they belong on someone else. So my sense of joy is evolving.

Maybe after I’ve spent a while in Nymph+Ermine and evolved that a bit, I might try Zyla again and see if I get any insights there. I suspect one of the Zyla archetypes might finally make sense for me and add to my Nymph+Ermine style.

I’m just trying to decide how much black I can handle. ?. Although I’m addicted to DYT, I do find it a bit crazy making style wise. SN and vivid something feels good. There is a soft side to me that DYT doesn’t quite capture.
